March 1, 1934 - November 18, 2024
Ethel Irene Reno, of Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 18, 2024. Born on March 1, 1934, and grew up in Stone Park, IL, she brought joy and warmth to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Ethel was the beloved daughter of the late Willie Gladys and Bertis Doyle. Ethel married the love of her life, Sam, in 1956 and together they raised five children in Clarendon Hills.
A fun-loving individual who loved to give and receive hugs, Ethel had an undeniable passion for life. Her love for animals was matched only by her incredible talent for baking — her chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies were legendary among family and friends. In her adventurous youth, Ethel made history as the second woman to purchase a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in Chicago in 1952, showcasing her fearless spirit and independence.
Ethel will be warmly remembered by her family, including her sister, Joan Edwards; Ethel’s three children, Lynn (Larry) Sabia, Steve (Michelle) Reno, and Christy Reno; and a loving troop of grandchildren: Eric, Nicole, Allie, Matt, Sam, and Katie. Her legacy lives on through her great-grandchildren, Ava, Giovanni, Amelia, Ashton, Luca, Andi, and Ella, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Sam, and two beloved sons, Wayne and Jerry.
In accordance with her wishes, she generously donated her body to science for Alzheimer’s and medical study, epitomizing her selfless spirit.
Ethel Reno’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will forever remain in our hearts.
